Vandeventer Black Takes Home Six CoVaBiz BOB Awards

Vandeventer Black LLP was recently awarded 2018 CoVaBiz Best of Business (BOB) awards in six categories.

The annual BOB awards recognize Coastal Virginia companies that excel in their industries and help make communities more dynamic.

The Firm was awarded in the following categories:

Vandeventer Black Awarded Best of Coastal Virginia

Vandeventer Black LLP was recently awarded as Best Law Firm for Southside Gold in Coastal Virginia magazine’s “Best of Coastal Virginia Reader’s Choice” contest. The publication asked readers to vote online for their favorite business in more than 150 categories and finalists were selected. More than 200,000 votes were submitted over two rounds across all of the categories.

Coastal Virginia Magazine is a leading resource for arts and entertainment, fine dining, local issues and interest. The publication will host a party celebrating the “Best Of” winners on July 26 at the Decker Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center in downtown Norfolk. All proceeds from the first 125 tickets sold will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association of Southeast Virginia.

Vandeventer Black Partners Named Women In The Law

Vandeventer Black LLP AV®-rated partners Anne G. Bibeau, Deborah M. Casey, Arlene F. Klinedinst, and Anita O. Poston were selected as Women in the Law for 2018. Published by Virginia Living, Women in the Law 2018 celebrates the achievements of Virginia’s most accomplished women judges and attorneys.

Anne G. Bibeau focuses her practice on Labor & Employment Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Commercial, Tax, and General Litigation. She represents clients before federal and state courts, administrative agencies, including the EEOC and NLRB, arbitrators and mediators.  She advises clients on sexual harassment, workplace investigations, the Family and Medical Leave Act, disability law, labor relations, VOSH/OSHA citations, and other labor and employment law matters. She also serves as an arbitrator in employment law disputes.

Deborah M. Casey, CCAL®is a member of the firm’s Executive Board and Chair of its Community Associations team. For almost three decades, Casey has concentrated her practice in representing Virginia’s common interest communities providing legal counseling tailored to their needs. She also has broad experience representing creditors and commercial property owners in leasing, contracts, bankruptcy, collections and dispute resolution.

Arlene F. Klinedinst has practiced Labor & Employment Law exclusively for more than thirty years.  She advises and represents a variety of organizations and businesses on a broad range of employment issues, including discrimination, sexual harassment claims and investigations, wrongful discharge, wage and hour claims, VOSH/OSHA citations, unfair labor practices, grievance arbitration, and covenants not to compete.  She represents clients before federal and state courts, administrative agencies, arbitrators and mediators. Klinedinst currently serves as Chair of the Labor Relations and Employment Law Section Council of the Virginia Bar Association.

Anita O. Poston’s practice is concentrated in business law with a focus on transportation, healthcare, surety defense and estate planning.  She is General Counsel for the Norfolk Airport Authority and the Chesapeake Airport Authority.  Other clients include insurance companies, a multi-specialty physician practice, as well as numerous businesses and business owners.  Ms. Poston chairs the law firm’s Government Relations Committee.

These skilled attorneys have been recognized with multiple honors and awards within the legal community. Additionally, they hold leadership positions as members of boards, governing committees, and fellowships within various organizations.

Anita O. Poston Included in the Virginia Lawyers Hall of Fame Class of 2018

Vandeventer Black LLP partner, Anita O. Poston, was recently recognized by Virginia Lawyers Weekly as part of the ‘Hall of Fame’ inaugural class. According to the publication, this prestigious award is given to attorneys with outstanding career accomplishments, as well as for their significant contributions to the development of the law, the bar, quality of justice, and to the commonwealth of Virginia.

“Anita is an accomplished attorney who is widely known and respected within our firm, and by judges, clients, and her colleagues at the bar as a leader of the legal profession,” said Michael L. Sterling, Managing Partner. “We are thrilled that she is being recognized for this well-deserved honored.”

Poston, an AV® Preeminentᵀᴹ rated lawyer, concentrates her practice in business law with a focus on transportation, healthcare, surety defense, and estate planning.  She serves as a member of the Virginia Board of Bar Examiners, having been appointed by the Virginia Supreme Court in 1990. Poston was appointed by the United States District Court of the Eastern District of Virginia as a chair and member of several federal magistrate selection commissions.  She also served as a Substitute Judge in the Norfolk General District Courts for five years.

In addition, Poston is involved with many civic and business-related organizations. She is currently the chair of the board of TowneBank-Norfolk. She also serves on the boards of the Norfolk Hospital Authority, the Virginia Capitol Foundation, the Norfolk Botanical Garden, the Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital Foundation, the E3 School, Greater Norfolk Corporation, and the College of William & Mary Real Estate Foundation.

Ms. Poston has been recognized by a number of organizations for her legal abilities, community service, and leadership. She was awarded the Eggleston-l’Anson Professionalism Award, its highest honor, by the Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Association in 2014.  She was the 1992 recipient of the Professional Woman of Hampton Roads Award and the 2001 recipient of the Citizen Lawyer Award from the William and Mary School of Law.  She was recognized in 2008 with the Humanitarian Award by the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities and by the William and Mary Law School with the Order of the Coif.

In 2009, she received the Influential Women of Virginia Award from Virginia Lawyers Weekly, the Outstanding Woman of Hampton Roads Award by the YWCA, and the Community Builder Award from the Hampton Roads Community Foundation (formerly the Norfolk Foundation).  She has been recognized by selection to the Virginia Law Fellows and the ABA Law Foundation Fellows.  Poston has also been recognized among Best Lawyers in America and Virginia Legal Elite, Virginia Super Lawyers, and as a Women In The Law.
