Richard Ottinger Steps Up as President of the Virginia Bar Association for 2021

Vandeventer Black LLP partner, Richard Ottinger, is the new president of the Virginia Bar Association (VBA) for 2021. The VBA is dedicated to the improvement of law and the administration of justice through advocacy and volunteer service.

“As the new VBA president, I am dedicated to upholding the Association’s mission and values, as well as to continuing to contribute to improving Virginia law,” said Ottinger.

Ottinger is firmly committed to the community. He currently serves as a Director of the Norfolk Economic Development Authority Director and a Board Member of the Downtown Norfolk Council. He is a highly accomplished attorney recently included in Virginia Lawyers Weekly’s list of ‘Leaders in the Law’ for 2020 for outstanding contributions to the practice of law in Virginia, significant achievements through the practice of law, leadership in improving the justice system, and significant contributions to Virginia’s legal community. Ottinger is listed in Virginia Business’ “Virginia 500 – The Power List” for 2020.

Focusing on resolving business disputes, Ottinger concentrates his law practice on commercial litigation, including intellectual property disputes, tort defense, transportation, and maritime litigation, and complex trusts and estates disputes. He is a member of the Firm’s Executive Board and co-chairs the Firm’s Government Relations Committee.

Harvey Selected as General Counsel for the Associated General Contractors of Virginia

Vandeventer Black partner, James R. Harvey, has been selected to be the General Counsel for the Associated General Contractors of Virginia (AGCVA). It is the largest construction trade organization in the state.

I am honored to be part of such an honorable organization that has helped shape Virginia’s construction industry,” said Harvey. “Undoubtedly, AGCVA is a leader in the construction industry and is focused on growing member businesses through networking, educational and legislative programs, and activities.”

Harvey is a member of the firm’s Executive Board responsible for the governance and operations of Vandeventer Black and serves on numerous municipal, professional, and civic boards and committees.  He is the former Chair of the Norfolk Board of Zoning Appeals. He is the past-president of the Norfolk & Portsmouth Bar Association, its foundation, and a past chair of the Virginia Bar Association’s Construction and Public Contracts Section.

Vandeventer Black attorney Richard Crouch honored as Virginia’s “Go To Lawyer”

Vandeventer Black LLP is pleased to announce that attorney Richard J. Crouch has been included in Virginia Lawyers Weekly (VLW) group of honorees in the new program “Virginia’s Go To Lawyers.” According to VLW, this program recognizes leading lawyers in a particular field. In this first round, the focus is business law.

“I am honored and humbled by the recognition provided by my peers and value the relationships I have in the legal community,” said Richard.

Richard, an AV-rated partner for the firm, concentrates his practice on business and commercial transactions, including commercial real estate acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, development, and finance.  He regularly works with real estate acquisition firms, developers, property management groups, commercial tenants, and lenders to structure and close commercial transactions.

Richard is a highly accomplished attorney also previously recognized as ‘Legal Elite’ by Virginia Business Magazine, ‘Super Lawyers’ by Thompson Reuters, ‘Top Lawyer’ by Coastal Virginia Magazine, ‘Top 40 Under 40’ by Inside Business, and ‘Best Lawyers in America’ by Best Lawyers.
