NORFOLK, VA. Vandeventer Black is pleased to announce that David P. Ferrell, James R. Harvey, and Edward J. Powers have been named to the firm’s Executive Board. The board is responsible for the governance and operations of the firm, and consists of five Partners.
Vandeventer Black, an “AV” rated law firm, has been providing a broad range of legal services to the business and maritime community since 1883. The firm is comprised of a unique blend of skilled attorneys and staff with professional degrees and who have experience in accounting, architecture, business management, engineering and finance. The firm represents international, national and local clients from offices in Norfolk and Richmond, Virginia; Kitty Hawk and Raleigh, North Carolina; Pasadena, California; and Hamburg, Germany.
David is located in the firm’s Raleigh office and concentrates his law practice in civil matters, including civil litigation, professional liability defense, title insurance, cooperative and public utilities, eminent domain, administrative and regulatory, legislative representation, business, and construction litigation.
James offers a wide range of experience in construction, surety, government contracts, land use, defective products, professional liability and business disputes. He regularly appears in state and federal court as well as various arbitration panels representing the needs of contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, owners, developers engineers, architects, insurers or sureties and their agents. Jim makes it a point to thoroughly understand his client’s business so that he can assist in the development, negotiation and review of contracts, and when necessary, resolve any disputes in the most efficient manner possible. Many of Jim’s engagements involve projects of local, regional and even international importance, and he is able to use these experiences to help clients with every new problem.
Ed concentrates his practice in transportation law and general litigation matters. His transportation practice focuses on the representation of ship owners, charterers, and their underwriters, including both domestic and international insurance companies and P & I Clubs. Ed also represents one of the largest Class I railroads in North America.
