Vandeventer Black LLP is pleased to announce the addition of attorney Greg E. Summy to the firm’s Norfolk office. Summy joins the firm as an Of Counsel.

“Greg is a great addition to our firm’s legal team,” said Michael L. Sterling, Managing Partner. “He brings a broad range of legal experience as a Deputy General Counsel for a Fortune 300 Corporation in Norfolk.”

Summy retired in 2020 from Norfolk Southern Corporation in Norfolk, VA, where he served for 26 years in positions of increasing responsibility, culminating as Deputy General Counsel. Previously he served as Associate General Counsel with North American Van Lines, Corporate Counsel with Lee Way Motor Freight, and private practice in his hometown of Oklahoma City.

Summy served as President of the Norfolk Portsmouth Bar Association Foundation and remains on the organization’s board. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia. In addition, he has served as Past President of the Transportation Lawyers Association, a specialized bar association with members in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and other first-world countries, and received the Distinguished Service Award and Lifetime Achievement Award from that association.

Summy has appeared on continuing legal education panels for the Transportation Lawyers Association, Transportation Law Institute, Canadian Transport Lawyers Association, Maritime Law Association, the U.S. Law Firm Association, and the Virginia Bar Association.
