NORFOLK, VA. Vandeventer Black is pleased to announce that Michael L. Sterling has been named as the firm’s Managing Partner.
Vandeventer Black is an “AV” rated law firm which has been providing a broad range of legal services to the business and maritime community since 1883. The Firm offers a unique blend of skilled attorneys and staff with professional degrees and experience in accounting, architecture, business management and engineering. The Firm represents international, national and local clients from offices in Norfolk and Richmond, Virginia; Kitty Hawk and Raleigh, North Carolina; Pasadena, California; and Hamburg, Germany.
Mike is a graduate of Lawrence University (B.A. Cum Laude) and William and Mary (J.D. Order of the Coif). He joined the firm in 1985 and he has served on the Executive Board, and as Chairman of the firm’s Construction and Public Contracts Department, Practice Management Committee, and Dispute Resolution Services.
He concentrates his law practice in construction, public contracts, and administrative matters. Recently, Mike prevailed in a case before the United States Supreme Court. Additionally, Mike is an arbitrator and mediator with the American Arbitration Association.
The Firm recognizes the importance of public and professional service. Mike has served on the Boards of the Red Cross of Southeastern Virginia, and the Norfolk Portsmouth Bar Association, and he has been Chairman of the Virginia Bar Association Construction and Public Contract Law Executive Council and the Vandeventer Black Foundation.
Virginia Business magazine recognized Mike as one of Virginia’s Legal Elite in Construction and Alternative Dispute Resolution. He has also been recognized as a Virginia Super Lawyer, a Best Lawyer in Hampton Roads, and one of the Best Lawyers in America, Construction.
Mike’s wife, Dee, is an Assistant U.S. Attorney, son Sean is a Finance Major at Virginia Tech, and son Peter is a sophomore at Cox High School.
