Litigation Paralegal – Norfolk, VA

Norfolk office of Vandeventer Black LLP seeks a full-time litigation paralegal to assist in its state court, federal court, and arbitration practices. The paralegal should be prepared to perform various substantive and clerical legal tasks under the direction of multiple attorneys in a variety of practice groups.  The firm seeks a committed and curious individual who wants to participate in litigation from its inception to conclusion, and will be personally invested in the litigation outcome and the success of our clients.

Essential Position Responsibilities:

  • Preparing exhibits for motions, depositions, mediation and trials
  • Preparing documents in response to requests for production
  • Summarizing and organizing depositions, medical records, and testimony
  • Revising pleadings, memoranda and correspondence
  • Researching and interviewing witnesses
  • Interacting with clients, witnesses and court personnel
  • Calendar matters for civil litigation
  • Working consistently and effectively in a team environment

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of e-filing and civil procedure
  • Understanding of state and federal courts and their various rules & procedures
  • Excellent time management
  • Highly organized
  • Superior analytical and investigative skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Ability to work with a team as well as independently
  • Ability to manage and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software

Education/Experience:

  • Experience in maritime, construction, or employment issues is preferred, but not required
  • Experience in the management of electronic discovery preferred, but not required
