Litigation Paralegal

Norfolk office of Vandeventer Black LLP seeks a full-time litigation paralegal.  The paralegal should be prepared to perform various substantive and clerical legal tasks.  The firm seeks a committed and curious individual who wants to participate in litigation from its inception to its conclusion and will be personally invested in the litigation outcome and the success of our clients.  This position will involve working on a very large number of cases simultaneously.

Essential Position Responsibilities:

  • Preparing exhibits for motions, depositions, mediation and trials
  • Preparing documents in response to requests for production
  • Summarizing and organizing depositions, medical records, and testimony
  • Revising pleadings, memoranda and correspondence
  • Researching and interviewing witnesses
  • Interacting with clients, witnesses and court personnel
  • Calendar matters for hearings
  • Working consistently and effectively in a team environment

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of e-filing and civil procedure
  • Excellent time management
  • Highly organized
  • Superior analytical and investigative skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Ability to work with a team as well as independently
  • Ability to manage and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software

Education/Experience:

  • Experience in Workers Compensation matters preferred, but not required
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, but not required
