Vandeventer Black’s Eminent Domain & Land Use team represents clients ranging from individual property owners and small businesses to developers, large companies, utilities and municipalities.

Our land use experience is all-encompassing and includes zoning and planning matters such as obtaining or appealing variance requests and special and conditional use permits. Vandeventer Black attorneys have a wealth of experience with restrictive covenant issues, site plan development and approvals, contract interpretation, all land use and title litigation, commercial and residential development, public utilities, and municipalities.  We also work with title insurance companies investigating claims made by property owners and lenders on a variety of issues such as boundary & easement disputes as well as right-of-way disagreements.

We have successfully represented landowners in litigation by DOT when their property was taken for creation and expansion of roads and highways. On the condemnor side, we assist our public utilities and local government clients with all aspects related to condemnation, including attempts to acquire the property before condemnation, trial preparation, settlement negotiations, and retaining and working closely with other experts such as engineers and appraisers.

Our work with real estate developers is varied and ranges from planned communities to shopping center acquisitions/development to outparcel development. Our attorneys are experienced in handling property acquisitions and dispositions, construction and permanent financing, asset-based financing, mezzanine financing, complex commercial financing (including private equity financing), zoning compliance and all phases of the development process.
