Professional Liability Defense

Vandeventer Black’s Professional Liability Defense Team is experienced in defending a wide variety of professionals, including accountants, attorneys, contractors and subcontractors, directors and officers, insurance agents and brokers in litigation in state and federal courts throughout Virginia.

Our clients range from solo practitioners and small firms to large national and international firms. We are experienced in investigating, counseling and defending all types of professional liability claims, including claims alleging professional malpractice, breach of contract, and breach of fiduciary duty. Our attorneys are panel counsel for numerous professional liability insurance carriers, and routinely consult with and advise the insurance industry on issues ranging from insurance coverage to risk reduction.

Outside of litigation, we consult with clients to provide proactive advice on risk management and loss prevention strategy. We also assist with document production requests and subpoena responses, contract negotiations, bid packages, and review of insurance policies.

We are experienced in defending professional liability claims in mediation and arbitration proceedings. In addition, we represent professionals before various grievance committees and state licensing boards in Virginia.

We are actively involved in a variety of industry-related organizations. This firsthand involvement helps us stay abreast of the important trends and issues professionals face in their respective practices, anticipate potential issues in litigation, and provide proactive advice for avoiding claims in the future.
