Ray represents clients in sophisticated and complex commercial real estate transactions, including transactions that include "CMBS" loans or agency loans. His clients include sellers, purchasers, borrowers, and loan servicers. Ray regularly manages the legal team for commercial real estate transactions involving multiple commercial properties located in two or more states.

As an experienced real estate transaction attorney, Ray is often engaged to research and address title defects and discrepancies that are material to a real estate transaction. He is regularly engaged as an expert witness to testify in court on a wide variety of real estate title issues.

Ray also provides legal counsel and representation for a variety of commercial and corporate transactions.

Ray began studying law in 1979 following his service on special assignment-intelligence in the U.S. Navy. Ray then established himself as an attorney with experience in commercial real estate transactions over the next 10 - 15 years of practice.

Ray and his wife, Kathy, have lived in Norfolk, Virginia since 1983. Ray also is an avid runner, having run marathon and half-marathon races in several states and he continues to compete in local races.

Experience

  • Served as local Virginia counsel to consortium of lenders making a refinance and construction loan in excess of $1Bill. for an industrial property.
  • Represented receiver appointed by English court in seeking recovery of embezzled funds by tracing the funds to real estate in Northern Virginia, obtaining judgment in excess of $6 million and liens on real property purchased with the embezzled funds.
  • Represented multi-office engineering firm in sale of company to an international engineering firm.
  • Represented real estate investment company in the purchase, sale, and financing of multi-family properties, including transactions involving multiple properties.
